Senior Scientist – Polymer Chemistry

Allarta Life Science is a pre-clinical life science company based in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, developing next generation biomaterials for immune-privileged delivery of cells, stem cells and biologics.

Allarta is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Polymer Chemist to join our team and contribute to our mission of developing technologies for cell-based therapies. As a Senior Scientist, in collaboration with senior team members, you will play a pivotal role in the design, synthesis and characterization of innovative polymeric biomaterials.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading the development of novel polymerization strategies and techniques under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Designing and synthesizing polymers tailored for specific applications within our projects.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate polymer materials into various platforms.
  • Conducting thorough characterization using advanced techniques such as GPC, NMR, UV-vis, FTIR, and Elemental Analysis.
  • Providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Contributing to intellectual property (IP) strategy through the evaluation and enhancement of polymer-related innovations.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry with at least 1-3+ years of post-graduate experience in an academic, industrial, or biotechnology setting, or an M.Sc. in Polymer Chemistry with 5+ years of experience
  • Experience working with various polymerization strategies (ex. ROMP, ATRP, RAFT)
  • Strong understanding of polymer kinetics, reaction mechanisms, and properties
  • Experience working with polymeric biomaterials is preferred
  • Proven track record of successful project contributions in a collaborative research environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to evolving project needs
  • An appreciation and interest in entrepreneurial start-up culture and willingness to proactively and where possible bring ideas to help contribute to the growth of the company
